Indian Head Massage

In its country of origin, Indian Head Massage is known as 'Champissage'. The Hindi word Champi – meaning shampoo, and Sage – to massage. In most households in India, hair and scalp massage is an integral part of family life. Originally developed by women as part of their grooming routine to keep their hair strong and healthy. It was and still is traditional for the women in the household to massage each others scalp on a daily basis. 

Narendra Mehta, an Ayurvedic practitioner, introduced an adaptation of this to the West in the 1980s, which included massage oils and Chakra work. He extended the massage to include not only the scalp but the upper back, shoulders, arms and face. This treatment has become a well renowned therapy ever increasing in popularity.
